Well new battery got me a week. I went about 2 miles, pulled into a McDonald’s to get a drink. While I was going through th parking lock the power steering waning came on and then the anti theft. I’m sitting in the parking lot with the battery disconnected.

not sure what we should be checking.

15 minutes-started got about a mile and happened again.

Had to get it towed home. Anti theft or limp mode with check engine light on. my anxiety about figuring this out, is going to the roof.

Is the anti theft the problem. Or is it the 0073 it throws after……. I am stumped about how to trouble shut this.

Interesting that a new battery did any good at all. A failing power steering motor draws excessive power. if you’re having any trouble at all with the power steering, you could try taking it to a GM dealer and talk to them about a recall or extended warranty on the power steering motor, whichever applies, and one or the other does. Either should be a $0 repair.

Some descriptions of this procedure don't mention that each time you turn the key to "off", you need to leave it off for 5 seconds.

Or that it’s also called the 30 minute relearn. 10 minutes for each step.

Well my car is finally fixed. We put in a new antitheft module. That’s cool. The thing that goes around your ignition. Then I could not even get it to relearn the keys. So they used the computer still could not get it working. Put the old part back in Download of the key data relearned the old antitheft module. Put the keys and everything works great.

what we’re thinking. The whole problem was is that I had a little RF door opener fob for the gym on the same keychain. We are thinking that the software for the antitheft got corrupted over time because of that little fob sending out RF signals also.

so basically what we did is used a software flash to fix everything. Needless to say I only have two things on my keychain right now my key and my factory key fob.

i talk to someone else and he said that what we did should fix it for a while, but if the problem comes up again to put in a new ignition Tumblr and put in the little antitheft module ring that I bought that I didn’t use. Relearn the software initialize the keys, and that should be good to go.

I don’t get the RF interference thing. Lots of folks have other transmitters with their cars. This is the 1st case of this I’ve ever heard of. Why haven’t there been others with the same problem ?
I wouldn’t put faith in your “fix”. The problem may return.

Lesson learned for me - with this kind of trouble, try the other key. (And always have another key.)
