Hi all! I'm new to this so please be easy on me. I hope I'm inquiring in the right spot. I was browsing the threads and saw one that had the exact same issue but they never posted the outcome. Hoping someone here knows. 2008 HHR battery light came on. Car drove just fine for over a day. Yesterday the DIC lit up with power steering/check airbag and then everything blinked and the car died while driving it. We replaced the battery and the car worked fine for another day or so and then the exact thing happened again. Please shed some light on what this could be. Thank you all!

Sounds like it's not charging. Low voltage will make the electronics go haywire. Have the charging system checked.( Have you looked to see if the serpentine belt is still on ?)

Fwiw. Always post the year, model, engine size and mileage when asking for help.

 

Hi firemangeorge! Thank you for the quick reply!! Sorry... it's 2008 LS 2.2, 4 cylinder, automatic and front wheel drive. It just cranked and I was able to get it to Autozone about a mile from my house. They said the alternator is testing bad. Is that part of the charging system? On the way back home... exact scenario of events happened again and the car died right in front of our house. Thankfully we made it home!

 

Alternator IS the charging system. That was my guess.

X2 on alternator. Same problem but I just replaced the alternator almost as soon as my battery light came on (mostly because I could very clearly hear it whining when I pulled into work).
