Welcome to the site, not a full top off just an once or two.
If your brake pads are worn then replace them and when the caliper piston is retracted, top off the master cylinder.

Is it the red brake light or a written warning on the dash board?

Did you look at the brake fluid reservoir?

Have the rear brakes EVER been adjuster or inspected?

Why did you need a brake job in less than 80K? The front brakes are usually good for at least 80K.

If you find that the fluid is low it means that the front brakes are worn out or there is a leak in the system.

A friend had a lifetime brake job, after 20K he took it back to have it inspected, without mentioning his guarantee. They found that it needed over $1,000 work.......until he produced the contract. Suddenly it only needed pads.

You are wasting your money on "lifetime" guarantees if you don't pay attention to the brakes. They don't guarantee they won't malfunction, they guarantee they will fix the problem.

Thanks for replying. I actually found my receipt for my "Forever" Brake work. It was done in 2012 which actually put the work at around 30,000 miles. Maybe Monro ripped me off. I don't trust mechanics anyway especially since had 2 major jobs just in the last 2 months. My muffler had a leak and Monro said they are not allowed to patch because it was on a curve so they charged me 1000 bucks for a whole new one "Dealer Part", of course and then I had a gas leak and Monro wanted to charge me 1500 bucks to replace 2 gas lines. I was like, nope. So I ordered the lines on the web for 150 bucks complete. I asked Monro if they would use the lines I bought and their standard answer was Not allowed, have to use "Dealer Parts" and the lines were 1000 bucks. I called a local shop and the mechanic there used the lines I got and charged me 50 bucks to change them out. I asked Monro to check my brake fluid and they said they weren't allowed. I would need my brakes repaired. I am not made of money and I think Monro is full of it. At the same time my brake fluid indicator "Just the written words on my dash", my ASC and traction lights were coming on saying that ASC and traction needs servicing. My traction symbol light stays lit. This is all the same time my brake fluid light started. I believe that is all relative, but it all started when it was like 20 below, outside. I love my HHR but it seems I am starting to pour more money into this car than I really want to.

The traction and ESC lights are caused by the brake fluid light.

Is there some reason you have to go to this Monro place?

Is there some reason you can't open your hood and look at the fluid reservoir? That info is in the Owner Manual. You can get a free digital one via the link in my sig.

I suspect that your rear brakes have never been manually adjusted and that has caused extra wear on the front pads. The cold weather then exacerbates the low level.

Your car does have "self-adjusting" rear brakes, sort of, You have to back up and slam the brakes frequently to get them to work at all. Most people don't.

I have to agree with Don on this.
If you went to a local guy and replaced your fuels lines for $50, why keep going back to a place that wants your wallet ?

Good Question. I guess because all my repair history is with these people. I went there when a friend of mine was the manager, and he never did me wrong. He then left and went to another place and I followed him there, but the owner of this other shop is a total stooge. Caused alot of grief when he messed up my son's car and refused to take accountability for it. So I refused to give him anymore of my money and went back to Monro. Most of the work is under warranty so if it should fail they will replace. I just recently found this other local shop but he is so busy that it takes months to get repairs done. I guess I'll just check this fluid myself. I was at the point where I was going to send Monro packing anyway. But they were convenient. Just down the road from my home. My brakes have a lifetime warranty however, so if there is something wrong they need to fix it. Thanks for all your help. I appreciate it.

There have to be tens to hundreds of shops in your area. Don't believe "we are so busy we take months to work on a car" Any place that "busy" is taking lots of naps.

I will bet that when you go into this Monro shop armed with your receipt, they will ask if you had the rear brakes adjusted and then deny your claim due to failure to do routine maintenance.

Hmm, one trip to Monroe, pay thru the nose for a lifetime warranty, then they drum up other crap to avoid replacing parts .
I’m sure glad I’ve got a tool box, garage and good old Dan to turn the wrenches.
I suggest either getting it into another shop, or learn auto mechanics 101, these things are easy to work on .
