I was able to get it home. Again, started out fine. I only used the brakes 4 times and didn't hard brake any. By the time I made it home the brakes were dragging but not completely locked up as usual. I'm going to call some shops on Monday. Definitely not taking it back to the same shop.

BTW, my daughter's HHR has a badge that says HRT, not HHR. What is the difference?

No HRT's. They're all HHR's. Either LS,LT or SS.
Sounds like a previous owner changed or modified the original emblem.

A Google search found this old thread on our site. https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/appe...er-8976/page3/
One of the pics shows a HRT trailer. May be where the HRT emblem came from ?

The HHR still has OEM HHR badges

Does your daughters HHR look anything like this HHR?

So, nobody thinks the sequence of events leads to backward installed self adjusters?
1. full replacement of rear brakes
2. brakes lock up
3. replace MC brakes lock up
4. full replacement front brakes
5. brakes lock up

Brakes progressively get tighter as used
2006 self adjuster are opposite of most American brakes.
mechanics have not seen drum brakes in several years.

^^^^^^ x2 , I agree but in the course of events reported, I remember someone had problems from mushy old flex hoses to the front brakes. I also remember someone installed the rear shoe adjusters on the wrong sides!
easy enough to check out!

"We pick it up and everything seems OK. Next day my daughter was on the way to her college class and same thing. Front brakes lock up.

We let it sit at the campus overnight and next morning we get it and brakes are OK, but by the time we get to the shop about a mile away, brakes are locked up again"

could be the adjusters, or maybe the front clipers are not sliding on the mounts. maybe they are the wrong ones for the mounts??
I had a brake caliper bolt fall out on my Land rover and it rubbed on the inside of the rim. Might need to drive it until it happens and then jack it up and see which wheel(s) are locking up.

I will definitely have them check the adjusters and make sure they are on the right side. The back brakes never lockup, only the front.

That badge on the trailer looks just like the one on my daughter's car.

It all started after the REAR brakes were replaced and continued after the FRONTS were replaced. You don't see a connection?
I do know that the self adjusters are completely bassackwards from what a typical mechanic would expect, especially one that thinks he is too smart to take pictures or look at instructions. The Universal Spring hold downs are probably installed wrong as well, since most have never seen the like.

The shop involved is obviously a parts swapper with no knowledge. Don't try to claim some sort of professional certification, anybody can buy those. (end rant)
