Depending on the year, the brake shoe retainer system is different.
Both are fairly easy. I recommend replacing drums and shoes along with springs and hardware.

2007 models use the "universal spring" hold down. There are several youtubes search "2007 hhr rear brakes". Ignore the assumption that they are all the same; 2006-2008 use the U spring and 2009-2011 use the more common hold downs.

2007 PowerStop shoe and drum kit includes everything you need, I suggest you clean the backing plate and paint them
