Brakes on my HHR while Towing

Besides driving my HHR, I also tow it behind my Motor Home. But, I have a minor problem. The braking system uses power to operate from the cigarette lighter plug. After about 2 hours of towing I get a warning signal from the unit that the battery on HHR is low and might now work if required. In an attempt to correct this problem I added a power line from the Motor Home to the HHR and connected it to the Red Power connection under the hood. But, the first trip with this connection I got the same results, 2 hours and the alarm came on. The battery is new, so I know it's not the battery.
Do I need to connect a line from the alternator to the car? Doesn't a power (Hot Lead) from the Motor Home to this terminal, put a charge to the battery as it is being used? Would a second cigarette plug wired (power from MH) work just as well? Any suggestions?
Thanks
Dave

To prevent the battery from draining while the vehicle is being towed, remove the following fuse from the floor console fuse block: 8 (Ignition Switch, PASS-Key® III+). See Floor Console Fuse Block for more information.

ChevyMgr,
I already do that to tow the vehicle. what I also forgot to add is that I also had a solenoid added to the vehicle for this power line, so when the vehicle is not running the line is not active.

You said you ran a power line did you also run a ground? also if you are going to try to charge the hhr battery from the motorhome you should install a isolating diode in the charge wire so if somthing happens to the motor home charging system it wouldn't drain the hhr's battery to keep the motor home running. that way you have two dead vehicals on the side of the road. I would think about powering the brake system from the motor home and leave the hhr's eletrical system out of it all together. seems safer that way and cheeper than isolators and solenoids

If you ran a power line all the way back to the HHR, why not go one step further and not use the HHR battery? Just hook it up the line from the motorhome.

Are you using a dolly to tow it and you are using power from the HHR battery to operate the dolly brakes? Doesn't your motorhome have a plug with 12 volt power? If it is for dolly brakes, I would put a battery on the dolly with a switch to activate the brakes if the dolly disconnects from the motorhome.

We always used a battery isolator with towable RVs. It should work for a toad as well...
