Braking issue with potholes.

Happy Thanksgiving first of all

Been awhile sense my last visit and thanks to previous help from the form members that have saved me a lot of time and money , the ole HHR has been doing more than fine, but I now have an issue that I have no idea where to start.

Problem, whenever I apply brakes and in most cases to slow down for upcoming pothole the brakes go to the floor , but when I release the brakes and reapply they are back to normal...the brakes function as normal otherwise, I never slam on brakes and as long as the road is not to bad I can apply them somewhat aggressively (if needed) and they do a great job at slowing me down. (other notes, brake pads Ok, fluid level ok, no odd sounds when braking , or driving (I do have hearing loss tho))

Thank you,Mike

A full inspection is in order , perhaps the master cylinder is leaking into the power brake booster!
check and adjust the rear shoe adjusters, they tend to not self adjust as designed.
check for spongy flex hoses , have your assistant apply the brakes while you observe the brake hoses front and rear.

And stop driving it on the street. It's a dangerous situation.

How you even say it's a braking issue with potholes is beyond me. Stop driving it before you hurt or kill someone.

I bet you have never even considered that you have rear drum brakes. If they have never been adjusted the brakes can act that way.

donbrew...after a go over with fluids and brake lines,I think it was the next thing I checked and they were good but needed adj.....anyway..to no avail...all my brake pads and shoes all look good,(maybe half worn)....emergency brake is working not much of a dead spot before engaging. but I think I will just have them all replaced , turn it over to a mechanic and let them deal with it...just to old and worn out, me that is

To test the booster: engine off pump up the pedal hold pressure on pedal while starting motor. Pedal should go to floor.
If that is not the problem the MC is suspect.
Parking BRAKE should click 3-4 times olr they need adjusting.
