Broken motor mount

Dang, I just bought a used 2011 HHR LT and only had it three days. When I drove it home from the dealer it felt like it was pulling to the left just a little.

I'm normally not a nit-picky person but I'm glad I was this time. I took it back to the dealer to see if someone could take a quick look. One of the techs drove it and agreed it was 'slightly' pulling to the left.

They called yesterday to tell me it was a broken motor mount! Dang! I bought this one as a blvd cruiser. It's a 2.2 auto. Are these motor mounts that weak?? I haven't even had a chance to customize anything yet!

Anyone else have motor mount problems? I searched the forum but really didn't see an ongoing motor mount issue with anyone. Maybe it's just a fluke.

Was it actually the engine mount or was it a transmission mount (there are three). Some of the later base model cobalts used a plastic composite/whatever mount instead of aluminum (or maybe they all did). HHRs may be the same.

The previous owner probably didn't treat it like a cruiser.

to the forum Jharte!

Do you know if your HHR is an ex-rental? A broken mount is unexpected on a unit as young as yours, but not impossible. I'd just check its CarFax to make sure it hasn't been wrecked, if the history is clean, then chalk it up to an unusual fluke.

Many have our upgraded solid upper engine mount, so it is hard to state if they have had issues, becuase they never used the stock one

BTW welcome!

The car was a rental. I knew that when I bought it. This one has 27K on it. I scoured it (at least I thought I did!) pretty well sliding under it and looking in every nook and cranny I could think of.

They told me it was a motor mount. I'll find out for sure when I pick it up (check the repair ticket).

I pulled a carfax before I bought it and it didn't show any reported damage. Hopefully it's just a fluke.

Good point, Aaron. That's one of the mods I'll be doing.

Thanks for your replies!
