A/C Clutch replacement
A/C Clutch replacement
Hello Everyone,
I have an issue with what I believe is my A/C clutch on my '06 LT 2.4. Last night I could hear metallic grinding noise coming from under the hood. When I got home I look under the hood and determine the noise is coming from the A/C clutch. The A/C functions, blows cold and the clutch engages / disengages. When I Turn on the A/C, the clutch disengages and the noise goes away. I also noticed a burning smell. I don't see any oil (refrigerant) leaks. Of course I'm looking at this without the aid of service tools and dye to trace a refrigerant leak.
Any ideas on how big of a job this is? Can I pull the A/C clutch without any special tools? It looks I can but I have never tackled this before. I'm pretty adept and DYI stuff on my own cars as long as it doesn't require a lift or specialized tools. I also can't afford a major repair bill. I already have a transmission issue on this car that I have to pay a shop to handle as well as major house repair that will have me tapped on funds. I was already going to do the serpentine belt so I might as well do this as long it's something that doesn't require any expensive specialty tools and keep the cost down below $200.00 in parts.

Does require a special tool, but should be a loaner from the local Advance/Zone/O'Reilly. It holds the hub so you can remove and torque the nut.
I have never done it, but it looks like a 1 bolt thing plus a torque wrench (also a loaner).
