Is this a TSB for 2007 as well? My 2007 1LT seems to have started exhibiting this last week. Also seems like there is a little bit more parasitic drag on the engine than what the A/C usually causes, when it makes this noise.

Well, after all this time I finally took the HHR to the Dealer last week and had those A/C pipes/tubes (Whatever!) replaced! It's so nice not hearing that whining noise anymore when the A/C is on. And they actually had the parts in stock.

Somebody probably knows......but who cares.....it works !!

But, I would say, maybe stops vibration by reducing velocity of freon passage.

Don't know if this is the same noise or not. but I only hear it when the ambient outside temps are over 100. Under that temp I don't hear it. I thought it was probably because of very high head pressures at high temps. Only hear it at low speeds going through the gears, not at freeway speeds. Sure doesn't affect how the ac works, today at 107 outside, it was blowing very cold air inside. Inside temps were very comfortable.

WOW, old thread. Haven't heard this issue being brought up in years. But I can say, mine has not made the sound again after the repair.

my 06 makes this noise when it is HOT, like 95*+ w/a bunch of humidity. Who ever said it sounds like the Wraith, is dead on (yes, I know that post was 5 yrs ago :). In terms of correct descriptions:
1. The Wraith Interceptor
2. accordian
3. cats

Every GM vehicle I've ever owned has mad this noise, including our 1990 Lumina, which we still have...for now.

It doesn't necessarily. The noise in mine came back, then they replaced the compressor (This was about 3 or 4 years ago) but the growl, whine, whatever, came back again last summer, especially when it got over 105 outside. This year it does it whenever the A/C is on. Dealer won't change it again as long as the A/C is still cooling, so I have to put up with the annoying noise unless I want to pay for it myself, or it craps out!
