A/C - What happens next..??

Always in the past if I had my A/C running and shut off the car; when I started it again; it would go back to running just like it was previously.
NOW today I started off with just the fan on; and as it got hotter I pushed in the 'button" to activate the A/C (and not just blowing air).
When I cut the car off;... every time now the little light is off and I have to push the button again to make the A/C come on and make it blow cold air.
Made six or seven stops today; every time I restarted the car I had to push the button to make the A/C come on.

SO question is what happens next...??
I KNOW these things tend to get worse; and I'm sure many of you have had this issue in the past.
So I figured you might be able to tell me what is causing it and a possible way to fix it (before it goes out completely)
THANKS for any info and instructions you might provide.

I don't think I've seen this issue before.

The only thing I can think of is to check fuses - AC, climate control, maybe even the RAP fuse. Perhaps a relay.

Otherwise, you might need a new AC headunit.

Are there any other odd things going on with the vehicle?

no - everything else is 100%.
it's an '07; but it just has about 110,000 miles on it.
I considered a fuse; but with those they seem to either be good or bad....
My A/C will run great and blow out ice cold air; just I have to push that button to activate the A/C each time I start the car.
I just wondered if folks had saw this... and what the next "issue" would be after this LOL>
Well; thanks for the reply... I'll keep an eye out for other responses

Try a battery lobotomy, to reset the computers, that might fix the issue.

I've had this on two HHR's and a 2003 Malibu. Always higher mileage old cars. It's always been just getting low on refrigerant. On cold startup, the car thinks it's low. Once things warm up a tiny bit, you might get it to turn one. May kick on and off randomly. Sound familiar?

One recharge and done, except the the Malibu needed it again in less than two years, so assuming a tiny leak, prolly a seal. Still see that car running around town.

It is possible the freon is low..?? But once press the button and turn it on; it stays on and cools well.

I DO think it wouldn't hurt to reboot the system. I'll try that also.
