CEL = No Onstar, no remote start?

Not sure what else doesn't work, everything seems to be functioning fine, but I noticed the CEL this morning after starting my car via remote start (which worked fine), tried checking the code using a code reader I have and kept getting an error. Said F it and went to work, came out and tried to start my car with the remote start and got nothing. Tried again and nothing, no noise at all. Started it manually and it started fine, still had the CEL, so I figured I would call Onstar and have them check it out. Pressed the Onstar button, it came on and said "Contacting Onstar," beeped a bunch of times, then said "Sorry, unable to connect to Onstar." Every time I pushed the button after that I got the "Sorry" message right away. Got home, checked Onstar on my comp, and the info it has is from a long time ago, but my account is still good until Aug for the free 1yr. Called them on the phone and let them know I was unable to contact them from the car, he asked what happened when I tried to contact them, then asked if the light on the right of the mirror was red. I said yes, I had seen that it was red, and he said it was a hardware problem and I needed to take it in to a technician. Anybody else have this problem? 1 thing I am wondering, if my computer is bad and has to be replaced, what happens with the Stage 1? Will they be able to reinstall it or will there be issues there?

Not sure about the Onstar and all, but I know if your car is throwing a code and the CEL is on, it will not start with the remote, to prevent further damage regardless of whether it could damage it or not. It just doesn't want to risk it.

Hmm, didn't know that, thanks. Maybe it's just an Onstar issue and that's all. Seems to be running fine, no issues at all the I noticed.

Seems odd to me you can't check the CEL codes though. I also find it odd that an Onstar issue would generate a CEL.

You have 2 problems. The CEL and an issue with the OnStar.

Your VIN is set up by GM to have the stage download so replacing any module doesn't matter, they will still download what is in the file with GM.

Awesome, thanks! At least I have an idea of what I am dealing with.

I don't have Onstar, but I've been getting an intermittent CEL, with the remote start not working. Good to know about the remote start, and I'm not too worried about the CEL since it goes off after a day or so and hasn't seemed to affect performance...
