CEL and Code P0014

Ok, so I had a P0011 code last spring. - https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/prob...2011-lt-66736/
Changed both solenoids and everything was fine.

Last night on a long drive home from the in-laws, the CEL came on. And when I stopped to read the codes, it was P0014.
Oil was changed right before Christmas. It's still at 93% life even after a 1200-mile holiday trip. No odd sounds while the engine is running.
What are the odds that the Dorman solenoid from O'Reilly has failed?
(I really don't want it to be the timing chain....)

Thanks!

It could be
Incorrect camshaft timing (streched timing chain

Wiring problems (harness/wiring) in intake timing control valve control solenoid system
(Look for loose connections or rodent chewed harness

Continuous oil flow to VCT piston chamber Failed timing valve control solenoid (stuck open)
A fail solenoid.

When was the last time you changed the timing chain? Is it still original? I’m thinking failed solenoid system, but it could be a stretched chain.

Still the original timing chain. I will take the air cleaner cover off this weekend and look at the wires. We definitely have mice around here.

P0014 usually means the exhaust VVT valve has failed.
P0016-P0017 mean the chain.

This slack gave me a P0014, only 20,000 miles on that chain, a cheap eBay chain kit.

VVT valve? How do I fix that?

It’s the VVT solenoid on the exhaust side. And that might be what failed, if there’s no noises at start up or running, being it’s a Dorman part.

Ah, gotcha. Thanks. valve, solenoid, sensor, etc. I get confused.

You could remove it and check for any debris in the screens

That’s why I always call them solenoid valves. That’s what they are. Definitely not sensors. They sense nothing.

When you changed them, what brand did you use? There seem to be some low-grade generics out there that are prone to early failure. You could try just changing the exhaust solenoid valve again. I prefer OEM.
