copied from the other post regarding reseting the system:

Before condemning anything do a system relearn and see what you get.
AC reset
Turn the system on full cold Max AC.
Radio OFF.
Turn ignition OFF.
Pull the HVAC (AC) fuse from interior fuse box. Leave out for 1 minute and replace.
Turn key to run/on position....NOT start.
Do not touch any controls. You'll hear the doors (actuators) being opened and closed. The HVAC module is learning the full open and full close positions. Wait until the system is completely done with the learning process. Less than a minute.
Start and test the system.

>>>>>You'll hear the doors (actuators) being opened and closed. The HVAC module is learning the full open and full close positions. Wait until the system is completely done with the learning process. Less than a minute.<<<< When i follow these steps, mine doesn't sound like it went into this Re-Learning mode - it just does the same thing it always does - moves in one direction and tries to go past it's stop point - click-click-click-click-click-click, then gives up until next time the car is started for a new drive. During each existing drive, it behaves normally switching back and forth between recirc and outside.

Since this started after you clean junk out of the cabin air filter area, that lives directly above the doors, I suspect something fell down there and is blocking.

I had the glovebox out so i could see better to discover the noise source and can watch it open/close but when it goes in the one direction, it keeps trying to close and thus makes the clonk clonk clonk noise several times before giving up. I tried to adjust it manually with my fingers as it moved or create some resistance thinking that might get it to recalibrate. NOPE - finally gave up not wanting to break anything or make it worse... Luckily i didn't. The strange thing is how this started. All i had done was replace a very nasty old air filter from po and put in a new one. then the noise started. and yes, i changed it when the car was off.
so when I bought my car it also makes a loud clunking kind of noise from the same area and for the life of me I can not remember what the previous owner said it was but would l love to know why it is doing it and how
to stop it, even if it only does it for 30 seconds when you first start it everytime.

Did you read the post you quoted? The blend door might be hanging up on something.
Have you looked at the cabin air filter? It might be installed incorrectly.

This proceedure works with other GM products. My Cadillac ATS had this problem and removing the fuse was the fix.

Do you mean removing the fuse temporarily, or permanently? Also, I'd be surprised if there was a fuse that served that actuator exclusively, so I wonder what all would be disabled.
