Changed Cabin Filter - Now What's That Noise?
copied from the other post regarding reseting the system:
Before condemning anything do a system relearn and see what you get.
AC reset
Turn the system on full cold Max AC.
Radio OFF.
Turn ignition OFF.
Pull the HVAC (AC) fuse from interior fuse box. Leave out for 1 minute and replace.
Turn key to run/on position....NOT start.
Do not touch any controls. You'll hear the doors (actuators) being opened and closed. The HVAC module is learning the full open and full close positions. Wait until the system is completely done with the learning process. Less than a minute.
Start and test the system.
>>>>>You'll hear the doors (actuators) being opened and closed. The HVAC module is learning the full open and full close positions. Wait until the system is completely done with the learning process. During each existing drive, it behaves normally switching back and forth between recirc and outside.

i want to follow up - it turns out it is the actuator trying to calibrate itself -as donbrew describes it. It's been so long now I must be used to it as I don't always notice it when I take a drive. I had the glovebox out so i could see better to discover the noise source and can watch it open/close but when it goes in the one direction, it keeps trying to close and thus makes the clonk clonk clonk noise several times before giving up. I tried to adjust it manually with my fingers as it moved or create some resistance thinking that might get it to recalibrate. NOPE - finally gave up not wanting to break anything or make it worse... Luckily i didn't. The strange thing is how this started. All i had done was replace a very nasty old air filter from po and put in a new one. then the noise started. and yes, i changed it when the car was off.
to stop it, even if it only does it for 30 seconds when you first start it everytime.
I did and yes sometimes my response lacks a little so apologies. I will check out the filter and make sure it is installed correctly. Thank you for having such a helpful and informative forum.
Do you mean removing the fuse temporarily, or permanently? Also, I'd be surprised if there was a fuse that served that actuator exclusively, so I wonder what all would be disabled.
