Chasing Codes P102, P0420, P0171 in a 2011 HHR LS
You need to check the stored ethanol % in the ECM. Not all inexpensive code readers will show it. It's usually buried in the menu system, can be hard to find.
Hi fellas and thanks much for taking the time to respond for my call for help. After checking off all the boxes the codes remained. No crack in the manifold. Battery is good and the alternator is humming along putting out 14.8V. Oh yeah, I also replaced the upstream O2 sensor. Results were the same codes.
I surrendered and took the car to a trusted mechanic and gave him a list of the work I performed and parts replaced. Even gave him receipts so he could feel comfortable about the quality of parts installed. He had it ready to go the next day! Problem was bad wires. Both the plugs that go into the MAF sensor and the TB had to be rewired. He said tracing the problem took a little time but the fix was easy. The car is clean, green and good to go. Mileage also increased dramatically.
Again, thank you for taking the time to respond. Your insights were useful and informative.
