Checking battery voltage
Planning preventive Maintenace on wife's HHR. It's an 06 on its second battery per owner's papers I got when bought. I think it's 5+ yrs old. Local auto parts store said best bet is go to dealer get AC Delco ..prepare to get hosed. Store doesn't do HHRs as battery special order and they don't accept payment for installing Auto Zone batteries and it's not a quick job. Nothing on a HHR is ever simple. Wife switched to garage near work..got 4 plugs plus install...charged $12.95 for plugs ..job was over $150..normal? ps They bent the brace wrestling the air cleaner back on and posts would't line up; check engine light came on.. Did jpob myself, but 40 minutes later after reinstalling air filter gizmo, lights went off. pulled bent bracket fwd at least an inch!!
The battery is an easy job. Fold the rear seats down, put the cargo shelf on the folded down seats. Unscrew the big round wingnut and put the spare tire cover on top of the cargo shelf.
Remove the negative battery cable and secure it out of the way. Remove the positive battery cable, then loosen the 2 clamping blocks.
Remove battery.
Installation is reverse.
