Welcome to the site, first lets start with some background info:
- what engine is it - 2.0, 2.2 or 2.4?
- how many miles so far?
- if the Check Engine Light is on, what are the downloaded error codes?
- what was done to it just prior to it not starting?
- did you recently clean the throttle body? and if so, did you move the butterfly manually?
- how can you see the butterfly with the rubber bellows from the air filter attached? (it needs the MAF sensor in place for proper operation)

But.... There is no reason to touch the accelerator pedal while starting. This is not a carbureted engine.
