Circle Bubbles or rust under pait on roof

I don't have pics yet but I just noticed 3 or 4 spots 1-2 inches in diameter on roof where it looks like a halo where the paint is bubbled or getting rust under. Smooth in middle and rougher ring on the outside. It doesn't look like anything sat on the paint and ate through as clear coat seems intact.

Any ideas or experience?

I have a 2009 under warranty. Is there any provision for flawed paint job or body panel?

Dealer isn't opened today and I want an idea of what I'm talking about. Thanks

I see you live in "hail country" like most of us in the south, what you're describing sounds like a problem with previously repaired hail damage. Did you buy your HHR used or had it been sitting for a while in stock on the dealer's lot?

Photos would be great if you can get some good shots of the damage.

Take it to your dealer and also a good body shop you trust, it sure sounds like a hail repair gone bad over time. Sometimes with "paint-less" dent removal, the paint is stretched to the point of cracking, after time the cracks can lead to a separation of the clear coat or the base coat from the underlying sheet metal.

thx for the info. it's almost like i know what the dealer will say before I go....sorry, not covered by warranty, doesn't look like hail damage and you've had it since 2009 so anything can happen. That will be $300 please

It may not be covered under GM warranty, but it darn well should be covered by the shop that did the repair. Or by Dealer Goodwill. Hail damage should have been disclosed, and in some states MUST be disclosed, and I think that in some states it makes it a "Used Car".

Just for kicks, you might pull a CarFax. If the dealer's insurance paid for the repair, it should be on it.

You should check with the "legal dept." to see if you have some rights or recourse.

Well one dealer body shop guy said looks like something got on the paint. Nobody there bit on that and I'm glad since it isn't true. They're repainting the whole roof under warranty without fuss and paying for a rental(fully loaded Taho LT with leather and dvd. They say they have no idea if there was any problem at the dealer they traded with for the sale. I haven't pulled a carfax. Overall if the repair is good I'm happy but may pull a carfax

"Sounds" like a good deal. However, this repair will probably be on the next CarFax and reduce the resale price. There is also a remedy for that, but you have to talk to somebody that knows. Just a warning.
