I put a wrench on it and it seemed to turn too easy, felt like it wasn't tightening, but wasn't sure if its supposed be that way, or should it be nice and tight????
Try two wrenches, so it doesn't just spin.

2009 hhr clunking noise

I have had the left control arm replaced ( right was done 2 yrs ago) and I had the sway bar bushings done. I still have the noise and the mechanic says it’s safe to drive. I just don’t know what to do!

Have the mechanic check the sway bar LINKS - they seem to wear out fairly quickly. If your mechanic you are currently using can't find the source of the clunking, find another mechanic.

How many miles on the HHR?

I have 120,000 miles on it. I will call mechanic to find out if he only did sway bar bushings and ask about links. Thank you

Could it be the bumper cover or the air box bracket or the fender liners or any of the plastic bits held on with plastic rivets?
