coding replacement ignition cylinder

Does anyone have instructions on setting the tumblers in the replacement ignition cylinder that is bought from the dealer? I was told to take the old one apart and use the same numbers that are on it, however once you remove the retainer pins from the factory ignition, they will not go back in,and I also read that you have to pay an additional 100-150 bucks to get the dealer to re-code it for you

By re-coding, do you mean setting the pins to fit the old key? Or setting the key security code.

It is my understanding that it is the key to steering column relationship, not key to ignition cylinder. Somebody else will no doubt come in with a lucid answer.

You are probably under the recall or special policy on this issue. PM me the last 8 of your VIN and I can tell you.
