Hey all, I will be tackling a leaking front crankshaft seal soon, thanks in large part to posts on this forum for making it easier.

I do have a newb question though, which direction does the new seal face when installed?

The new seal has a plastic protective cover on it if that helps as a reference.

 

The protector is on the outside of the seal, just pry out the old seal and tap in the new seal with that protective piece in place .

You’re welcome. I use a piece of 1 1/2 inch plumbing pipe to install the seal into the front cover.
