Electrical Charging System

Today a notice came on that there was an electrical charging system error, and then the battery save light came on. Does anyone know what would cause this.?

Welcome. What year is your HHR? Could be the battery.

Last week I had the same thing, in my case the alternater stopped working had to buy a new battery, had the alternater replaced $506.42 I would not replace it myself.
