Electronic Problem

I'm a newbie here. I have a 2008 Chevy HHR LT. Recently my radio and other things started acting up. Sometimes when I start up the car only the tweeters work on the radio. At the same time the dinger that tells you to fasten your seat belt does not ding and if I turn the car off, leave the keys in the ignition and open the drivers door the alarm that tells you that your leaving the keys in can barely be heard. Also I've noticed that the oil life indicator is incorrect too. It says I have plenty of time left when I know better. Every once in a while I can start up the car and the radio and everything else works fine. I feel that all of these problems are related and have a common fault. Has anyone else run into this kind of a problem? If so, what is the cure and how much was the repair. Hoping to get a good answer here.

my 09 has radio (only one speaker works) and airbag (service airbag and dash lights are on) issues, im not sure if its the parts or the wiring harness...my guess would be theres a ground wire somewhere that could cause the problem...neither is worth paying the dealer $90 an hour to find it...

You're speaker problem is the reason for your "dinger" not working. The ding noise is transmitted through the left front speaker. If the speaker isn't working, you probably only hear it through the tweeter.
Either a loose connection to the speakers or the speakers themselves are going bad. Outside chance that the radio itself has a bad output channel.

As far as the OLM. A little more info than, "It says I have plenty of time left when I know better." What percent does the OLM show? Some cars can go upwards of 10-12 thousand miles until it gets down to the 0 percent range.

Oops. Welcome to the site.

Until the electrical malfunction causes your airbag to explode in your face at 75 MPH.

Bill, I can definitely do more research on this issue for you. I'm also really sorry that you have been experiencing these concerns with your vehicle. Could you please private message me your full name, phone number, address, and current mileage?

Best,

then (if I live) I sue GM since its a well known defect that there should be a safty recall on it, when this first started happening GM was buying the cars back... if I die in a wreck caused by it my airbag light problems are over

at least Chrysler did an unlimited milage recall on my voyager mini van, they had bad "clock springs" in the steering wheels that cause air bag warnings and they fixed them all for free, no questions asked. my 97 van had over 200,000 miles and I was about the 5th owner...maybe GM could learn from Chrysler.
