Sorry to hear about your motor, but it definitely should be covered. I hope they can get you back up and running pretty quickly.

Sounds like you should have been using better oil!!

J/K and stirring the pot a little.....sorry for the problem. But it sounds like GM will take care of it.

I NEVER drive the car hard, barely taking it over 4000rpm unless I'm entering the highway, and have used Mobil 1 since I bought it.
Hey man if you are referring to me, I simply asked 2 questions. No blaming here...

but FWIW as soon as it started tapping/ticking continously, it should have been looked at..

Not at all, referring to firemangeorge, who contends that 10 minutes of noise is enough to warrant me leaving work early for the day, canceling all plans, and having my car in a shop for the remainder of the week. I guess I would get to pay for a rental car during that period if want to make it to work. Sounds reasonable enough

GM should cover a rental under warranty if they can't fix it within a day and they deem it serious enough that it shouldn't be driven... But I can understand your predicament and really this shouldn't happen at 44K miles anyway. Thankfully GM will take care of it for you.

Ok,I stand corrected.Or do I.Went back and reread your posts. One says the noise got progressivly worse. The next says it only got worse within the last mile.I can't tell what really happened,so I'll just say "sorry that the engine blew up". I hope the dealer is able to complete the engine swap in a timely manner.Good Luck.

BTW. Which football game were you headed to? Big Alabama fans down here.

Yeah, if it sounds like a sticky lifter...you should keep driving. I mean, that's how you fix it. If it didn't get louder until it blew, that's not his fault. If you take it in every time a lifter might stick after sitting for a few days you'll become great friends with the shop.

Our motors don't have conventional "lifters" with the DOHC set up...

i think eric is referring to the rockers rockers wil chatter occasionally on any engine especially when they are dry at startup and valves that are open on shutdown will be louder for a while after they have sat for a bit.
