Engine light

My engine light just came on the dashboard. Does anyone know about this? We all assume it needs service. I only have 27900 miles.

Did you check to see if your gas cap is tightened properly?

A lot of the bigger chains of auto parts stores will read (and clear) the code for you for free. Call around and you should be able to find one that will do it.

Look up the code on this site and you will know what direction to go to fix the problem. Post what the code is and someone will hepl you.

It was the gas cap, it was loose. The Dealership quoted me $124.99 to reset. They stated they do an on-board diagnostic and find out the problem then reset the light. I say "ridiculous"! Any other suggestions people?
I appreciate your assistance! ...

Yes, avoid stealerships, post your problem here first..Many here have answers..

Some Dealerships are better than others, in keeping a customer happy..

Disconnect the battery for 30 or more minutes will probably clear it. Or it will clear it self from being a current code and displaying in the IPC after driving for a week or so. It is then stored as a history code which won't affect anything.

Right on. Evap leak code will clear itself if it is a small leak and it is corrected. (cap being tightened properly) The light will turn off itself but the history will stay.

Hey guys!...I forgot I have an OBD II reader which reads out codes. I simply hooked it up which read me the code and I simply erased it. It resets it, that easy. Puchasing an OBD reader can save you money!
The engine light on the dashboard also deletes the remote engine start.
