My engine light came on this weekend. The oil life is at 18% I'm planning on changing it this tomorrow. Could this be the cause of the engine light?

Doubtful. (unless maybe your oil level is low )

Engine light on or Check Engine Light (CEL), means the car has detected something wrong. You need to have the engine codes pulled to see which one has triggered the warning light.
Could be any one of hundreds of trouble codes that your car monitors for.

I'd swing by the local car parts store and get the codes pulled , write them down like P0000, and type that in the search window or simply Google it , and of course we are here to guide you through the issue!

 

Thanks everyone. The problem was an oxygen sensor near the catalytic convertor. My local dealer took care of it.

Of course I paid up the wazoo, but it's fixed.

 

Would have been nice to know what CEL code number it triggered.

this light already lit me 3 times . in different cars, and the problem is always the exhaust pipe of the sensor.

It could be the fuel!
