valves usually burn under a lean condition, sounds like you have a fuel management problem. im sure theres other ways to burn valves, i think alot of hard acceleration may cause it over time but a lean fuel mixture is the likely culprit in my opinion.

 

OK..we have burnt plugs...burnt valves.....CELs...stumbling and so forth. Burnt plugs is good info...could you detail how they are burnt? Overheated? Melted?This is an important clue as to your problem......As stated valves will melt nder a couple scenerios...1) Lean fuel/air mix..2)Defective valve or valve seat materials ( yes, can happen in sets but not common or probable) ... 3)Valve not properly seated and combustion gasses are leaking by ( takes a long time to burn thru under this condition, could be cause by bad machining therefore all the valves can be affected...in short the valve guides and the seats are not square to each other, only takes a couple thousanths
This is someting that would require a teardown and thorough inspection to determine cause....would need to see tops of pistons, valve color etc etc.....or a borescope..
Anyways.. when asking for this kind of help state all the things done and why, all are clues and help.

 

The problem with the 2.2L and the 2.4L heads is that compression is leaking between the valve seats (metal) and the cylinder head (aluminum).

 

Should I assume this will be a continuing problem? I just took the Company 09 2.2L in for Check Engine Light and intermittent Traction Control Light. Diagnosis was one burnt valve. At 33,500 miles. Will this be a recurring theme?
