X2 on checking the flexpipe like donbrew suggested.

And what exactly does "sounds like a timing chain" mean. Being a former professional mechanic, I don't recall any specific timing chain sounds that you can automaticly identify.

A rattling noise like a timing chain that's loose.

Trying to diagnose a noise like this over the internet is almost impossible without listing every possible source of the noise - and I don't think you want to get 500 suggestions on what to check.

If you want to diagnose it yourself you are going to have to get your hands dirty - jack up the drivers corner and crawl underneath and investigate - else take it to a shop.

Did you check the flex-pipe as suggested by donbrew?

Hello jawscardodger,

I understand you are looking for advice from other forum members, but if you are willing to work with a GM dealership, please let us know so we can assist throughout that process. Send us a private message that includes your full contact information, VIN and current mileage. We are more than happy to check if there are any open service announcements associated with your vehicle and explore our options with you.

Sincerely,

Laura M. (assisting)
