Etching of paint on rocker panel and rear door rock guard
YES,THE DOOR IS PAINTED UNDERNEATH WHEN THEY TAKE THE TAPE OFF . hOWEVER , YOU WILL HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM IN A FEW MILES . GO THROUGH BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU. IT IS NO COST TO YOU AND YOU WILL GET YOUR RUNNING BOARDS FOR FREE IN LESS THAN 30 DAYS . NO HASSLES. DO NOT LISTEN TO ANYONE ON HERE THAT SAYS YOU CAN'T .
Just to add a little heat to the fire or clear some things up......You be the judge.
One of my buddies at work recently purchased a used 3000GT. So I go out with him to check out his new ride and I noticed GM's design flaw on a Mitsubishi.

The other side is just as bad.
I wonder if he can get a one time repaint?
Sorry for the crappy phone pics but I had to work with what I had.

Finally got my running boards installed - GM picked up 50% of the cost. I ordered the color matched ones (2nd design). They were $20.00 more than the primed set, but there was NO paint cost. Dealer discounted my half of labor and parts - final cost to me $259 and change. On the TSB - removed the cladding on the rear doors and wet sanded and buffed the lower doors. All parts returned to me (rocker covers and cladding). Too bad Chevrolet/GM & the Dealers make the customer go through such a bunch of crap to get this done properly, leaves a bad taste about the whole process.
not arguing over petty crap..> I came here to get answers and information....
hello, my little sheep .....YOU ARE SO WRONG !!!!! EITHER YOU WORK FOR CHEVY OR YOU SELL THE RUNNING BOARDS ! DON'T TALK TO A DISSATISFIED OWNER ......TALK TO THE CHEVY EXECS ABOUT COSTS GOING UP ! THE OWNER BOUGHT IT IN GOOD FAITH . EVERYONE WITH THIS PROBLEM IS ABLE TO GO TO THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU AND AT NO COST TO THEM GET THE RUNNING BOARDS FOR FREE . YOU WILL HAVE YOUR BOARDS IN LESS THAN 30 DAYS . THERE IS NOTHING TO LOSE.
Hello all. My wife noticed this morning the paint peeling off the lower rockers on her 3 month old HHR. I am brining it to my dealers attn when it goes in for oil change on Mon, but is there anything I should know before I take it in? I am going to read this entire thread, it seems like this has been an on going problem. I would love to get the running boards, but I can't afford it right now....does that slove the problem? Irregardless I should not expect the paint to peel off a 3 month old vehicle that hasn't even seen a winter yet! Any feedback is appreciated. Here's a pic..

You're telling me they may try to say that this is normal wear and tear for 3 months?? No wonder GM has had such trouble. I love my SS/TC but if they don't take care of the problem with the HHR, I swear to God I'll drive it up somebody's ass.
I couldn't get my local dealer to do anything about mine (I bought it used with 6000 miles on it) just ordered running boards last night for $419 Will have to get them painted in the spring. I am going to run them black until then. Paint will cost two hundered.
