Etching of paint on rocker panel and rear door rock guard
Update, the dealer looked at the HHR yesterday. They replaced the rotors (warped...they said there was a good amount of rust on the rotors probably from the car sitting on the lot a long timne before we bought it) and they are repainting the rockers. So I'm happy the dealer is taking care of it. I am still going to get the running boards come spring though(no$$ right now)
I went through this process successfully over 2 yrs ago..it takes time.. I suggest you ignore the people in the forums who try to discourage you, many have or had ulterior motives. I had to use the "Customer Assistance" process as my local dealer claimed to not have ever heard about the problem before I complained and was not willing to work with Chevrolet(GM) for me! here is a link to one of my last posts in this forum. I stopped posting here because of the childish comments and insults of some posters. Good luck - my '07 now has slightly over 8,000 miles on it with no other problems. It only goes out on nice days and to car shows. gets loads of attention. It is lowered 2", rear sway bar, vent shades, custom striping, custom vertical fin grille, chrome taillamp rings, door handle protectors, stubby antenna, custom chrome trim, RS logo headrest covers and woodgrain interior kit. It is Red Sox themed with RS mats, rear carpet RS logo, liftgate glass has large Red Sox logo window decal, many diff RS hats placed along upper dash at shows as well as lots of little things of RS memorabilia. It was the first customized HHR on Cape Cod.

Welcome to the Forum:
Running boards are the way to go - don't forget to install the factory slash guards for added protection. Do are search for paint issues and you will find quite a few. Keep an eye on the bottom of your doors were the seam folds over. Several people have had rust start to pop up there.

Well, I spray painted the sand blasted area less than a year ago with some rustolem, since all of the paint is worn away and it was starting to rust. Flash forward to present and the spray paint has worn away and there is rust again. I am going to prime it with rustoleum and then spray a rubber bedliner over it for maximum protection. It may not look the best, but at least I should not have to worry about it rusting again.
Now I need to figure out out to tape the area off for it to look the least ugly.
