The engine has no external leaks.

As anyone here had trouble with valve guide wear and/or valve stem seal wear on the two-four?
Hello Hib,

Sorry to hear that you are experiencing an increase in oil consumption. Have you checked with your dealer to see if there is a fix? I would be happy to help you set something up if that is a route that you would like to take. Just PM me your name, contact information, VIN, current mileage, and preferred dealership.

Sincerely,

Jonathan A.

'Preciate the reply, Jonathan.

I have a local dealer I work with, but, far as I know, being that the truck is an 2007 with 100,720 miles, it's likely out of its powertrain warranty. Not sure on the emissions controls warranty. I need to read the warranty info on that.

I've been watching the oil use carefully since it was new and once it's consistently more than a Qt. per 1000 miles and if we decide to keep the truck for a while, I may consider repairs. On an out of warranty engine, I will first consider doing the work myself.

One of your Social Media Team associates, Kelly J. is a Corvette pal of mine. Tell her "Hi" for me.

Merry Christmas.

Hi Hib,

No problem! I'm glad to hear you have a local dealer you like to work with if need be. Let us know if you have any questions regarding your warranties. I'll be sure to tell Kelly hi when she gets in the office, Tuesday. She is just a couple seats down from me. :)

Merry Christmas to you too!

Hey there Hib.

You didn't recently change to synthetic oil did you? When I did, at about the same mileage you are mentioning, my 2.4l drank the synthetic like crazy - maybe a quart in 1000 miles (no leaks at all anywhere). Previously it barely showed any loss after 5-6000 miles. So I went back to conventional oil and it almost returned back to normal, but now needs a 1/2 quart between changes to keep it topped up.

No recent change, but I've been using synthetic since a change to Red Line 10W30 at 3070 miles. from then until a couple of years ago it used a qt. every 3000-4000 miles. Since then oil use has slowly increased to about a quart every 1500 miles.

Synthetic oil is not the problem, here. My first guess is valve stem seals or maybe guides.

When it gets down to a qt. ever 500-1000, I guess I'll have to do something about it because at that rate, it will kill the truck's cat.

I recently had something like this going on. I did a Sea Foam induction sit over night, seems to have fixed it. I guess an oil control ring got stuck and Sea Foam fixed it. A miracle!
