Flex pipe help
I'm not a big fan of Midas, Quick Lube, or any of the 'cut rate' chains. they pretty much just replace parts, but don't really fix anything. Finding an independent muffler shop is good advice. If that flex pipe is installed correctly, there is no reason it shouldn't last a very long time.
You need to check with a dealer, When my pipe cracked I took to a muffler shop and he said this is a warranty issue. Indeed, Dealer replaced it, as it is part of the emissions control system. I'm not sure what the time limits and or millage limits are on this, Check it out.
I was informed 8 years or 80,000 miles for the cat which is welded to the flex pipe, however the flex was the problem and not the cat.
Now because I would have to undo the 3 exhaust manifold nuts and the 2 flange joint nuts and bolts , undo the 2 O2 sensors, and then cut fit and have welded the flex joint piece on, I elected to just order up a new cat and flex joint down pipe and save a few bucks
Estimated cost forum muffler shop to cut out and weld up flex joint - $200.00 plus the parts another $85.00 to $125.00 potential total $325.00
New cat and flex down pipe plus shipping and installed free by me - $176.00
I didn't include celebratory adult beverage, cause they were in the fridge already!

Right after my flex pipe failed on my 2007 2.4L, the cat started throwing errors and the exhaust shop said probably due to some contamination at the inlet side of the cat. I bought and replaced the flex section and tig welded it on so there would be no leaks. I eventually bought a replacement pipe and cat assembly from RockAuto.com and the cost was about $150 plus $8 shipping.
