The problem was limited to the 2008 model. That was the year that TPMS became standard/mandated and combined with the RCDLR (which was also moved). The software from the factory did not allow the retention of programming when a low voltage condition occurred.
2manyvans had it reprogrammed NOT updated thus the re occurrence.
On Panels the 2 access panels are controlled in a different way. I think the IPC needs to be programmed as well as the RCDLR. It takes a mechanic that can read directions to do it.

That's when I had the problem with the tire monitors and the key fobs. I took it to the nearest dealer (37 miles away). The Service desk guy was really cool and tried his Tech II on it. He got the TPMS and all the doors except the 2 cargo doors working on the fobs.
He had to bring it into the shop to get the Tech to use his laptop to program the cargo doors. No Charge ...cool.

Six months the battery was dead again. ( the car sits for six months at a time) probably my fault for not using the battery maintainer on it. The memory on the Tpms and fobs was wiped out again...Crap
So I went last Saturday morning to the dealer again armed with DonBrew's service bulletin #08-03-16-001B . They reprogrammed it and so for it's good. It cost me total of $ 106.00 including $9.00 EPA and$7.17 tax.
We will see.........John

thanks for the info, it appears I am in the same boat as many others, the batt in my FOB was dead since buying my HHR panel last year, and TPMS light has been on that entire time, when I had my rims changed the first time, I asked them to program the TPMS and that is when I found out they cannot without FOB. so a few weeks ago I went and had a batt put in FOB and programmed at the same time. which worked 1/2 way, I could lock/unlock doors as well as set alarm, but it wouldnt pop the cargo doors. I didnt worry about it as I just wanted to get the new TPMS that I bought with the 2nd set of rims installed last month to work. so I followed procedure to reset TPMS and my FOB stopped responding again...
Ive been browsing the forums and finding some info about it, but this thread clears it all up. (I suck at forum searches....)
again, thanks for the info everyone.

You have a 2008 , so it might need to be reprogrammed for the Remote door locks and TPMS

The battery in question is the car battery not the fob battery.

It happens on used car lots all the time; battery goes dead for weeks. People like me buy the car, the salesweasel swears it does not have remote entry that's why no fob. Do as little research tell the weasel he is a liar, get fob (found in cargo compartment) programmed. Then find out the TPM positions can't be reset, find the 2008 TSB fight with the GM service bozos, who can't find the RCDLR because they are using outdated manuals. Finally they admit that the TSB on GM letterhead just might not be a interwebs b.s., but still refuse to look it up for themselves. Service Adviser "that ain't my job". Mechanic " huh?, what's a TSB?" Service Manager hears the ruckus, scans my hardcopy and tells the adviser to "get John to do this, it says something about reloading software".

There is more to the story including tire stores that don't know why TPMS positions are important etc.
