Front disc brake replacements

Hello,
i own a 2010 hhr and had to have my pads replaced and rotors resurfaced, no brainer i know. However after the work was performed at a chvrolet dealership i noticed shuddering upon braking, is this normal?
I am considering replacing the rotors and am inquiring input from other hhr owners as to what i should look for in rotors and pads.
I driver five days a week approximately twenty miles over a mountain to work, i also like to travel in my car, i currently have over 117k miles on my car and have replaced the front brake pads twice, rear shoes are still original.
Thanks...

a.) the rear brakes MUST be hand adjusted.
b.) shudder can be caused by bad front suspension parts. They can surface after the car has been on a lift.
c.) Don't assUme that a dealership did ANYTHING other than what they billed for. They don't normally adjust drum brakes or look at LCA bushings.

I agree with Don.

The rear brake shoes HAVE to be adjusted by hand.

In over 40 years of working on cars & trucks, the HHR is the only vehicle I have seen that has this unusual detail.

The other 2 points he brings up are also VERY important.

If you follow his advice, your HHR will have very good braking.

Good luck!

X2 look to the rear drums for correct adjustment and the lower control arm rear bushings!
They can look like the one on the right, after you remove the LCA but can be looking just fine

The dealership stated they replaced the pads and sesurfaced the rotors, it wasn't long after the shudder appeared when braking..

We understand that, however we have experienced this and determined these solutions!

The LCA issue can crop up after lifting the HHR on the hoist.
The rotors could have been resurfaced out of round , but I have seen replaced discs have the same issue!

Improperly adjusted rear drums can result in some shudder and will prematurely wear your front brakes as well. I learned this after replacing all of my brakes and had to have the shop adjust the rear drums because I couldn't adjust them properly for the life of me.

I am very confused, my car was serviced for front brake problems, they diagnosed that as front pad replacement and rotor resurface. Rear brakes were not looked at.
