Green oil on back of A/C compressor

I got green stuff on the back of my A/C compressor, is this oil leaking out of it? Am I about to buy a new compressor?

Well it might be a refrigerant leak showing up, because there is oil in the system to lubricate the compressor. A green color could indicate the presence of a dye added to the system in the past to track a leak at some point.

But before you start planning on A/C work, take a good look around to make sure the fluid isn't coming from another source.

Then, have the HVAC system checked out by a professional.

I believe you stated you used green antifreeze in your thread about overheating, so this could be spillage from your cooling system cap! Clean it off with a soap emuliant like Spray Nine or Super Clean and rinse with water. I don't think you have a refridgerant leak

That is what I was going to ask. Since he is having cooling issues the next question would be where is it coming from.

Well, then maybe it's green anti-freeze.

Could be leak check dye; but, that is usually UV visible. I don't know what color PAG oil ends up.

Just my opinion after reading the responses and looking at the picture......

I agree with the respondents who think it is "slopped" antifreeze from installation or removal. The spot indicated on the photo does not appear to be dripping or emanating from any leakage point. Just appears to be a smudge.
