About all I can add is, if the ABS was working, you would have felt it, and HEARD it - so I have to assume that the ABS is NOT working.
The difference in the wear of the brake pads: nothing to worry about, the difference is pretty minimal, and can be caused by dirty calipers, guide pins and anything else the edge of the pads contact.

and if you used another QUART of brake fluid......... you really need to take it to a shop - using a quart (now what, 1.5 GALLONS?) is way out of line - you are doing something seriously wrong - you need to read the posts in this thread.

I'm out.
"The difference in the wear of the brake pads: nothing to worry about" I say the caliper piston is not retracting like it should causing uneven pad wear.
The amount of brake fluid that has been used was to flush out the system. That's the way I read it.

That's what I meant by "incredibly bad".
Oh yeah, the pads were about 20,000 miles past their life. If the groove is gone the pads are worn out. Once they go that far comparing inner and outer is kind of worthless.

After I changed my rotors and pads with the car off I pumped the brakes until they tightened up to the pads but without opening the reservoir. Then I went for a drive and the brake pedal was mushy. The next morning I opened the reservoir then pumped the brakes until they were tight then recapped it. Went for a drive and the brake pedal was no longer mushy. Never opened the lines and/or bled the brakes. Everything is just fine now with no mushy pedal.

There should be no need to bleed of you don't open a caliper or cylinder. Just a pad change does not require it.
The reservoir is open to atmosphere opening it should do nothing.
Mushy after a pad change would indicate sticky slide pins.

Also adjusted. Only had to do 2 clicks each side. Didn't take apart the drum to see the wear though...save that for another weekend.

A PSA , always remove the drum to clean and inspect the drums and brake shoes , and check the wheel cylinder for leakage!

Had good pads and shoes, but pedal randomly dropping to near the floor. Braking while backing several times would fix it for awhile, so I concluded it was a problem with the adjusters. Had the garage inspect, clean, and adjust the brakes. Been perfect ever since.
