Question help with dash removal please

hello to all reading this, I am a new member on the forums but long time reader.
I recently have had an issue with my heat not working and after extensive research and some fiddling with my 08 hhr I found that the piece that connects the blend door to the actuator has broken off. From what I have read/found on here and on the internet there is no fix for this other than to replace the unit and that could cost over 1000$. So I am heading to a junk yard to pull the part and do it myself. this is a big inconvenience since the only way to switch between hot and cold air is to use a pair of needle nose pliers now and I cannot really do that while driving.

I just need some help with the how to on removing the entire dash so that I can replace mine. Also if you know if I can replace just the blend door or do I need to replace the entire upper or lower parts of the HVAC system.

Thank you for reading and all of you help.

p.s. I have the broken piece if you need to see it I can upload a picture.

thank you for the information, I have seen the posts already before though. Am not sure if the blend door repair kit will work for the hhr or not since nobody posted saying they used it on the hhr or not. The autozone disassembly looks like it will be very helpful with taking out the dash.

Am still a little iffy about having to replace the entire unit of if I can just do the blend door but I am sure I will find out at the junk yard tomorrow when I rip one apart.

thanks again

Sorry we could not help more. Let us know how it goes.

Nobody here has taken the dash apart that I know of - I've done a heater core replacment on a Dodge Avenger, and that was one ugly, time consuming job. It was not a job I would ever want to repeat.
