HHR cooling fan low temp cut off?
i topped off the coolant with universal 50/50 stuff, i will do a complete flush here in the next few days because your right that DEX crap is nothing but trouble.. and i want my water pump to last as long as possible, as it looks like a complete engine tear down to get to it.
No Dexcool is not "nothing but trouble". Like any antifreeze it needs to be changed on an appropriate schedule to avoid problems. Adding a non approved universal 50/50 stuff to top it up is not a good thing to do - that can cause problems.
Changing the water pump does not involve a complete tear down - it is a bit more complicated and costly than in days of old, but the water pump typically lasts as long as the timing chains, and is swapped out when they are replaced. I'm guessing 150,000 to 200,000 miles is pretty much typical for chains and pump life.

You are still living in the last century. DexCool has no problems with current engines. The "problem" is that people don't know the symptoms of it doing it's job. It has a 5 year shelf life; it gets granular after it gets overheated, in an attempt to clog up leaks.
No, not an engine tear down, a 4.5 hour flat rate job (with the correct tool) really 2.5 hours.

If you mixed in 50/50 universal coolant, and you mean green coolant , that's the start of the issue!
Dexcool and green stuff are not compatible!
The green stuff is not going to react and warm in the time frame the sensor tells the computer!
It's been documented on the site since day one , these Ecotec's are designed for the correct coolant, thermostat and spark plugs.

the universal coolant was yellow or maybe orange.
cant wait to get that dex crap out of there.
