No problem with splicing the gas and vapor lines. If you can crawl around under the car you can do that easily. Either with a short piece o rubber fuel line and a couple of stainless clamps or a brass compression coupler
No such thing as a "minor" exhaust leak especially in the winter. You are tempting the grim reaper.

 

Replace the fuel lines, not that expensive and fairly easy, you don’t have to drop the fuel tank!
