I agree that the Malibu may have a creature comfort level above the HHR, but the HHR is set up as a multi purpose vehicle. I use mine for BMX bike racing with the kids (mud wipes off the "rubbermaid" plastic really easy) as well as for carrying 8' long boxes for business (with the rear hatch closed).

If you don't need that level of functionality or flexibility, by all means go for the comfort.

The Malibu is quite a different driving experience I have driven both and test drove the malibu when I bought my SS. I found that the malibu was nice but the HHR SS is me. It really boils down to what works best for the individual. Also size does matter and the contoured seat doesn't work for heavier people.
