I have 750 miles on my SS and the brakes are grinding really badly. I dont drive hard or stop hard at all. Has anyone had this problem ?

If it's the rear, yes. I haven't taken it in yet, but need to.

I had my SS at the local dealer yesterday for noisy rear brakes. They said everything is working okay, and gave a bulletin number. They claim GM says not to replace anything. I didn't actually see the bulletin but I think the number is 08-05-22-004. I have the number at home, not with me.

I asked if I'm supposed to turn up the radio and the service manager just stared at me for couple seconds. Then he started in on his "everything is working fine, no safety issue" speech again.

I haven't heard much noise from mine, however I almost never use them :).

Our Cobalt SS/TC sqeeks really bad in the rear when backing up. Only has about 400 miles on the car, but it has done it from day 1....

At low speeds or light braking, my brakes are quiet. It's only during hard(ish) braking that I get the noise.

#08-05-22-004: Information on Brake Squeal/Squeak Noise - (Jul 15, 2008)

Subject: Information on Brake Squeal/Squeak Noise

Models: 2008-2009 Cobalt SS, HHR SS

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Do This
Don't Do This

Inform the customer that this is a normal characteristic of the high performance brake system.
DO NOT repair or replace the rotors or brake pads.

Under certain weather or operating conditions, occasional brake squeal, squeak, or other noise may be heard with the above vehicle's performance braking system. The brake system is designed for superior fade resistance and consistent operation using high performance brake pads. Some brake noise and brake dust is considered normal and do not affect system performance.

DO NOT attempt to repair or replace any parts for this kind of noise concern. The squeal or squeak noise is not indicative of any concerns with the braking system. You may wish to give the customer a copy of this bulletin.

Can't say I have ever had any noise at all from mine (certainly not "grinding") I had the stock SS brakes for 10,000 miles. Changed the front to Brembos, and they are also quiet. I would suggest applying anti squeal between the backing plates and pistons, and if you are unclear what that means, ask a brake shop to do it for you.
