Problems/Service/RepairsIf you have a problem with your HHR, want a tip on repairing or performing a particular service to you HHR here is the place to post!
2008 HHR SS, auto trans, 169,294 miles. . . Had the car for about 6 months. Runs great. The other day, dies while coasting to a light. Cranks, no start. . . Tow it home. . . Check fuel rail pressure, 65 psi. . . No codes at all. . . Where do I go next?
If it cranks fast, like with no load, the timing chain has let loose. Do not attempt any more cranking.
If the cranking seemed normal, loosen the 4 bolts in the underhood fuse block a bit, then crank them down super tight. It's a 7mm tool required. Then push down all the fuses and relays to ensure they are seated properly.
You could perform a compression test, basically free and easy.
Oh dam. I would pull the valve cover and check the timing chain for slack. I'm thinking it's intact, but may have slipped 2 or 3 cogs, bending the valves. Should have got a check engine light as a warning, though.
Cam timing chain almost certainly. But scan for codes again before disconnecting the battery and losing useful info.
Never a CEL? Never a rattling noise?
Most often there's a warning, but you can lose the cam chain suddenly and catatrophically if (when?) the front guide breaks, if a chunk jams the chain.
You’ll need a head gasket , head bolts or an ARP stud kit, timing chain and guides, balance shaft/ water pump chain and guides. I suggest you order from 1 source that knows LNF engines very well, ZZP has all the above!
That’s why I recommend it! and I would use the ZZP head studs even on a LE9 2.4.
However a 15 year old car needs to be accessed as to its value and if it is financially viable to replace these parts , or simply install a new LDK or LNF
