I had my 175k miles 2006 hhr 2.2 engine timing chain replaced along with new valves and head reconditioned. Now the idle cant be reduced below 1600. I was told its the throttle body..didnt idle high before the repair.

 

Robert, welcome to the site. Seems, someone fiddled with that throttle body and messed up the throttle plate, try a battery lobotomy, disconnect the negative cable from the battery for a full 30 minutes to reset the computers, then reconnect the negative cable, this should reduce the idle and the throttle will relearn it’s settings.

 

The battery disconnect was done. I was told the throttle body looked bad. Is this the problem? should I have the throttle body replaced? Its expemsive.

 

Ok, so you disconnected the battery for at least 30 minutes, how is the car behaving now? It may take some time for the idle to get back to normal.

 

RockAuto lists several throttle bodies for the 06 2.2 HHR. In the $100-150 price range. Not very expensive.

Do the battery disconnect again, please. It’s worked before and is the least expensive fix, try it.
