Hey Guys, thanks again. I was able to see the part number on the rail and it matched the one I got on eBay,12613162. The injector I cannot see. I'll get my son try to get it but I feel confident they will match. I got the rail w/ injectors and harness from a car w/ only 11,000 miles, for $ 42.00, free shipping. I'm a retiree so I try and save a $ when possible.

donbrew- I was able to use a magnifying mirror and flashlight and I confirmed the number match on both sets of injectors. Next few days I'll rebuild the set on the bench and then swap out the rails. Can I get any advice on how to get that clamp off of the fuel line ? At least it looks like a clamp from my view. Probably won't hear from me until I can give an update.

The clamp just pries off. Then you need a fuel line disconnect tool to separate the connection, 3/16 I think it's my yellow one.

I don't know exactly what you mean by rebuilding, they don't come apart as far as I can see. The best you can do is clean them and new o-rings.

Injectors

When I get a used engine for a streetrod project the injectors are clogged with varnish from the dried up gas. I made an injector cleaner to solve the problem because injector cleaning services cost about $20 per injector but also gives you a balanced set. To home clean the injectors first ultrasonic clean them. Then I poked a hole in the lid of a Mason jar, put a pigtail on the injector and clamped a syringe full of injector cleaner to the input end. Adding pressure via the syringe plunger I pulsed the injector with a 9 volt battery. I could watch the spray pattern change as the injector cleaned. Worked for me.

Sorry about using the term"rebuild". I should say "service" instead. Anyway, I made a DIY cleaner sorta like the one 33willys put together. Next, it's time to remove the rail from the car, stay tuned.

I was asked by private message what "balanced injectors" means. Also called "matched", it's where the injectors are flow tested and, if there is a weak injector, it is replaced with an injector that matched the flow rate of the other injectors in the set. This insures each cylinder gets the same amount of gas and each will "pull it's own load". For my hokey cleaner I used a Mason jar so that I could see the spray and contain the cleaner. I'll try to post a picture. Oops, says I can't post attachments...sorry

Update : Well, I got the old fuel rail out and found two of the ports were pretty fouled up. The number 1 and 4 were very dirty and the other two were clean. I noticed the gunk was soft and mushy. I cleaned them up with a rag stretched over a small bolt and some spray cleaner. It worked very fast and easy. The hardest part of the job was getting the wire harness off. They put all these locks and gizmos and sometimes they are hard to figure out. Anyway, I got the new rail and injectors back on and put the fuse and relay in and turned it over and it started right up. I scanned for errors and the cleared the memory and drove it all evening. No CEL and everything was smooth. I am going to do a flush with Techron and then Sea Foam. That should do it. Thanks to all.

You probably have a problem.

A. does coolant disappear?
B. are the spark plugs the same?
C. you never said if you did a compression test.

I'm thinking head gasket or bad plugs or leaking rings.
