I drove my hhr about 8-9 miles with the temperature sensor unplugged
That was the only issue... But i had a 22 minute drive ahead of me and didn't want to have to pull over to let engine cool down... Thought unplugging that sensor would help... So after a little research and getting ghosted by a mechanic... It was started in one of these forums the oil sensor would cause the car not to start... The smell of the smoke catmanhhr didn't have a scent but the ticking sound was that of oil... Would that caused oil to leak out? Maybe my oil sensor gave out... Hope i covered what was asked
So. You unplugged the sensor thinking that would keep it from running hot ? Sorry but it doesn't work that way. If you kept driving it then it probably did run hot
(but you wouldn't know that since the sensor was unplugged)
Now if it ran hot to the point of shutting the engine down, then I'm with Don. You may have blown up the engine. Seized it. Terminally damaged it or whatever you want to call it.
The oil pressure switch or sensor is located on the front of the engine below the oil filter housing just above the starter , you should be able to see it and see if there’s oil spread around that area.
That’s it with the wires connected to it on through the , that’s the starter just below it, and the knock sensor to the right.
Now, I’m confused, you stated the temperature sensor was disconnected, which was it? Think now, and I’m not trying to be disrespectful but just get the events in the correct order, to assist you.
OK I agree with George.
This person has no idea of mechanical things.
My last question to this is. Who thought to unplug the temp sensor ?
"Mechanic" aka "a good friend" ?
Timing chain will tick, so will a loose rod bearing, or oil pump.
reconnect the wire to the temperature sensor and the oil pressure sensor, and see if the car starts , and post a link of where it started in this forum. I’d like to see that.
