Intermittent Cruise Control Outage: Yet Another Post!
Could stepping on the foot pad cause a short, illuminating the light momentarily, and turning the cruise control off?
But what you're saying don, is that doesn't explain the heat build up at the CHMSL. And a loose relay wouldn't cause the CHMSL to stay on either. And if the CHMSL is on enough to build up heat, the cruise control would rarely, if ever, work.

DonBrew: Apologies. I did have someone stand behind the car as suggested and CHMSL wasn't on when brake not applied. Bulbs are all working as they should and the only bulbs needing to be replaced have been the rear brake lights, not the CHMSL bulbs. I followed the bulb recommendations in my owners manual so correct bulbs have been used.
I really think it's more likely the wiring harness as what else would cause the CC to additionally cut out when pressure is put on the floor board and driver's seat? Makes sense that there is a short in the wiring.
I will be taking my HHR back into the dealership as I have already paid the diagnostic fee to find the CC problem and paid for what they thought would fix the issue. Unfortunately, this grannie no longer has the strength to attempt this kind of repair!
Thanks again for all your help!
