I'm sorry. The switch leg I'm referring to is wire that controls the device. Either opening or closing the positive to control the device or opening or closing the negative to control the device.
I'm with the understanding that the modules provide ground to control devices, so the positive is constant. I know the switches give signal to whatever module thats involved, but I don't know circuits are only contrled by the switches or are they operated by the modules by the programing.
How do you know the switch is stand alone?

This is the 21st century, there is no positive on the switch except for the gray wire for the LED/light. The switch connects a ire to the BCM to ground, ground is a signal that turns a transistor in the BCM on. The switch does not control a circuit.
I know because I have looked at it.

I am not doubting you at all. I am just trying to understand how the switch is powered and how to diagnose the intermittent operation. Does the wiring come from the BCM. I don't believe there is a module problem. Unfortunately most of the cars I've owned and worked on were from the 20th century, but I'm trying to get caught up and figure it out. Thank you for your help.

Randomly the emergency flashers come on by themselves

I'm working with a 2010 2.2l LT that the emergency flashers come on by themselves randomly. It started out happening at night causing a low battery. A charger was put on at night so not to be late for work. It started happening during the day. They would stop when they car was started. Friday however it didn't stop with the car being started. It continued after the switch, relay and fuze was pulled. I've checked for obvious damage to the harness, but haven't found an obvious problem. I can't find a wiring diagram so I can check the particular wiring at the modules. Any help would be appreciated.

Seems to me, the switch has failed, internally.

Is this the same car/problem that you posted about 4 months ago ?
And which switch, fuse and relay did you remove ?

Yes, same car same problem. It stopped happening for about 3 months. Now it worse the hazards were taking longer to get them off. Friday they wouldn't go off. The hazard switch was disconnected. The 69 and 31 fuses, and 68 and 28 relays were removed. The hazards never went off. The signal switch was replaced. Now it back to intermittent.

How long have you owned this car ? What happened right before all this started ? Repair work ? Minor accident ?

You either have a ground wire from the Hazard switch shorting to ground. Could be anywhere in the harness to the BCM. Or ,you have a SRS problem. Supplemental restraint system. Thinks you’ve been in an accident and turned on the Hazards.

I bought the car in February and repaired it for a friend who needs a a car. It had numerous neglect issues. It wasn't wrecked as far as I know. I replaced the timing and counter balance chain sets,as well as the timing solnoids and cam phasers. . Replaced the temp sensor. Repaired the wiring to the throttle body. It had cut wiring on top of the intake. Rebuilt the suspension and replace several body panels. I tried to get it reliable and decent looking.
