That is what he means. The hood switch is a double switch; it supplies a closed signal and a not open signal. It is part of the latch, they have been known to get loose or bad.

But, there should be a CEL or hood ajar message, unless this is a car that someone modified.

 

Based on no DIC warning..... dead cell in the battery!

 

It's a real longshot, but if you remote start it, drive it for less than 10 minutes, then shut it off with the fob, you'll have this problem. You have to insert the key in the ignition and turn it to 'run' to reset the remote start.

You should get 2 remote starts before you have to cycle the key, but there was a case where the guy was only getting 1. This is in the owner's manual, so you probably knew this, so probably not the problem, but worth pondering.

I have a manual trans, so no remote start here. Can you even get it out of park and drive it without the key in?

Just to clarify. I don't believe there is a Hood Ajar warning in the DIC. Only ajar warnings I see in the Owners Manual are for the doors and liftgate.
