Key FOB ?
It seemed to work just fine in the thread below and, though I've never programmed one myself with one of these, I watched a guy do one in the Autozone parking lot and his worked:

I have had a similar thing happen when I had my ELM module plugged in and reading PIDs, it seems to happen when there is a certain active code already. It happened twice, I never did figure it out. Just unplugging the ELM from the OBD2 port then restarting the car fixed it. (thus my question)
