What Whopper was talkin about don't need no programmin. Just replace the whole sillycone pad, another option from Ebays is a whole new case that includes the sillycone pad for about $2 more. You keep the internal circuit board and replace everything else. You only need to reprogram if you replace the circuit board! Well maybe the panel would be tougher to find.
FWIW, just about any GM case from this century will work, sometimes you jut get an extra button for the trunk lock, but there is no corresponding contact on you board. I got the new case & pad because I performed the "remote start without AP3" fix and wanted the button.

 

Or you could do it the lazy way like me, I bought every one that has been listed for sale here since I joined, my dealer programed them free, plus replaced one under warranty that had a broken connector on the battery. I still have 4 in waiting.

If you have to find out that the tinfoil hat will make you new again please, let me know! I would like to get a discount for the rejuvenation tin hat that you will make a killing on. LOL

I'll probably have to replace mine. It's getting a little balky.

I haven't bought anything from them, so I can't vouch for them yet.

 

I might have to purchase those after my aluminum foil wears out; the lock and unlock icons are wearing away also.

Oh, a good way to cut out the foil dot is to use a paper hole punch, one smaller than the normal 1/4" size though. The foil will cut best when sandwiched between paper.

I know what I used for glue(silicon), but I'd like to ask the OP what he used to attach the foil to the old carbon?

 

Turns out it was just a battery. Got a "low key fob battery" message last week and that took care of it.

 

mine was the battery terminal loose issue a little solder and works great, after I had purchased a FOB from somebody on E-by who swore he had the best service, stone cold ignored my pleas for help when the service advisor told me the unit was dead in the water no signal and could not be programmed, $36.00 worth of maybe spare parts

 

mine was with the same problems and I did do the aluminum foil trick after seeing the costs, even the ebay glue on buttons. What a bunch of crap. Give it a little good ole American ingenuity, can't beat it.
